Silage Wrap Recycling and Other Waste Streams

There are many waste streams that can be recycled on farms. One of the major streams are silage wraps and bale wraps there is a good chance that at present you will be being charged through the nose for this sevice. At polytunnel plastic recycling we hope to make recycling more affordable and to keep more and more polytunnel and silage wrap out of landfill an get it reused or recycled.

How is silage wrap recycled?

There are many methods of farm plastic collection available in the UK that have many different methods of silage wrap recycling.

If you need help finding a local collector for your farm plastic recycling then contact polytunnel plastic recycling.

If you use a bin and liner system as is highly recommended as it is easily compacted and allows you to store more wraps within each liner saving you time and reduces storage space required. It should also cut down on the costs of your recycling overall as it will be easier for any farm plastic collector to remove from your yard.

The silage wrap will be baled and then either processed on site or moved to another site that has the capacity for recycling it into other products for example stokbord which is a widely available recycled plastic sheet which is often used on farms thus completing a loop.

What should I do to prepare silage wrap for recycling?

Separate waste streams don’t mix your wrap with empty chemical drums and other types of plastic.

Remove all net and string as you will probably be charged a fee for handling if the collector has to sort the streams for you. Remove any excess silage where possible and don’t mix tyres, stones any metals in with your plastics.

If you treat your collector with respect they will be able to collect at lower cost and pass the savings onto you in terms of lower priced future collections.

Can I mix silage and bale wraps?

You can mix silage and bale wraps together but fertiliser sacks and any other types of plastic should be separated.
